We are looking forward to our in-person educational event with the Institute of Economic Affairs on August 25th: Understand the Birthgap

Across the developed world, fertility rates remain persistently below people's stated desires and the level at which each generation would replace itself. This raises questions not only about how society will manage the reduction of workers relative to the reduction of workers relative to older dependents, but also how we estimate what people's desires are and what would support them without incurring unjustifiable costs on others. To grapple with these issues, the Institute of Economic Affairs and The Centre for Family and Education are organising an event with demographer Lyman Stone and economist Clara Piano to which you are invited. Lyman and Clara have worked extensively on identifying factors behind the gap between stated desires of how many children people would like and the number they have (the 'birth gap'), notably co-authoring a paper on the link between economic freedom and the birth gap.
